# GoCardless

> GoCardless's current offer: 25% off transaction fees for charities, checked on gocardless.com on 12 Oct 2026. Without it, you can stay on the free GoCardless plan listed on gocardless.com.

GoCardless has no setup or monthly fee on its Standard, Advanced and Pro plans: you pay per payment collected. On the UK pricing page Standard is 1% + 20p capped at £4, Advanced 1.25% + 20p capped at £5 and Pro 1.4% + 20p capped at £5.60, with higher rates on international payments. Registered charities and nonprofits can switch to Charity Pricing, which takes 25% off the standard Direct Debit and Instant Bank Pay fees once GoCardless has checked their status.

GoCardless collects subscriptions and invoice payments straight from your customers' bank accounts by direct debit. When a payment fails, it retries automatically, so fewer payments slip through. A free plan lets you start without a monthly fee. It suits businesses with recurring customers, such as subscriptions, retainers or memberships.

## Questions

### How do I move my GoCardless account to charity pricing?

Update your organisation details in the GoCardless dashboard so the account shows you as a registered charity rather than a limited company. GoCardless verifies your charitable status before it changes the pricing. Charity accounts are supported in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Spain.

### Which fees does the charity discount leave out?

The 25% cut applies to standard transaction fees on Direct Debit and Instant Bank Pay. It does not touch the monthly fees of Plus and Pro, high-value transaction charges, or, for self-serve merchants in Germany, Austria and the US, failure and chargeback fees. Charity accounts also cannot use International Payments with FX.

### Is the fee cap the same on every plan?

No, each plan has its own cap on domestic payments: £4 on Standard, £5 on Advanced and £5.60 on Pro, according to the UK pricing page. The cap matters if you collect large invoices, since a £1,000 payment costs the capped amount rather than the full percentage. International payments are charged at 2% to 2.4% plus 20p depending on the plan.

### What does Advanced add over Standard?

Advanced adds automatic retries that GoCardless says recover up to 70% of failed payments, plus stronger identity checks on payers. Pro goes further with fraud protection and help with chargebacks. If few of your customers miss payments, Standard covers one-off and recurring collection at the lowest rate.

### Can I change plan or leave whenever I want?

Yes, GoCardless lets you change or cancel your plan without a contract on the self-serve tiers. A change takes effect from the 1st of the next month if you ask at least two working days before. Paid extras such as showing your business name on bank statements cost £50 a month and are billed separately.
