Datadog bills each product on its own meter: infrastructure and APM per host, logs per GB ingested and per million events indexed. Infrastructure Pro is listed from $15 per host a month on an annual commitment and $18 on demand, with 15 months of metric retention. The free tier covers up to 5 hosts but keeps metrics for one day only. The startup programme gives early companies, referred by a partner, a year on the full platform with credits worth up to $100,000.

Questions
How does Datadog count hosts on my bill?
Infrastructure is charged per billable host, measured at the high-water mark for the billing period. A burst of extra servers during one busy weekend can set your count for the whole month. APM is billed separately for each host that sends traces, so a host running both products appears on two lines.
Is the free tier enough for a small side project?
The free tier monitors up to 5 hosts at no cost. Metrics are kept for one day, so you can watch what is happening now but cannot look back at last week's spike. Pro moves retention to 15 months, which you need once you compare performance over time.
How much do I save by committing to a year?
Datadog's pricing page shows Infrastructure Pro at $15 per host a month on annual billing against $18 on demand, and Enterprise at $23 against $27. APM with infrastructure is $31 a host on annual and $48 on demand. Monthly and hourly plans also exist, so you can start flexible and commit once your host count settles.
Who qualifies for the $100,000 startup credits?
Datadog for Startups accepts companies at Series A or earlier that apply through a partner such as a VC fund, a cloud provider or another vendor's startup programme. Current and former Datadog customers are excluded. You start a trial while they review, hear back by email in about 3 to 5 business days and must confirm activation within 30 days.
Can I lose the startup credits before the year ends?
The account has to show activity: if it sits idle for three months, Datadog sends a warning and gives you 30 days to use it again. You also pick a data region at sign-up and cannot change it later, so choose the EU region from day one if you need data held in Europe. Questions go to [email protected].
