Slack charges per active member, and its fair billing policy credits you for people who haven't done anything in Slack for 28 days. The Free plan keeps 90 days of message history, up to 10 app integrations and one-to-one huddles only. Pro, Business+ and Enterprise+ are billed per user, with a lower monthly rate when you pay yearly. Charities apply for Slack for Nonprofits: Pro is free for organisations up to 250 members, with 85% off above that and on Business+.

Questions
What happens to old messages on Slack's Free plan?
Free shows the last 90 days of messages and files. Older history stays hidden until you upgrade to a paid plan. If you need to search past conversations or files regularly, that limit usually decides the switch to Pro.
Do I pay for Slack members who stop using it?
Not under Slack's fair billing policy. A member who takes no action in Slack for 28 days counts as inactive, and Slack credits your account for them. New members you add are charged pro rata for the rest of the billing cycle.
Pro or Business+: what does the bigger plan add?
Pro gives unlimited message history, unlimited apps and group huddles. Business+ adds advanced AI features, including AI search and workflow generation, plus admin-created templates. For a small team that mainly needs history and huddles, Pro covers it.
How do nonprofits get Slack Pro for free?
Eligible charities apply through Slack's help centre article on the Slack for Nonprofits discount. Organisations with up to 250 members get Pro free. Larger ones get 85% off Pro, and the same discount applies to Business+.
Is Slack cheaper on a yearly plan?
Yes, the per-user monthly price is lower when you pay for the year, on both Pro and Business+. Slack publishes both rates side by side. Monthly billing gives you more freedom if your team size changes often.
