Questions
Who qualifies for GitLab for Startups?
The programme is open to new customers whose company has outside funding. Seed companies with up to $5M raised get a free Ultimate licence for 12 months on up to 20 seats, then 50% off any tier in year two. Series A or B companies with up to $20M get 50% off in year one and 25% off in year two. Bootstrapped companies cannot apply for now.
What proof of funding does GitLab ask for?
GitLab asks for a Crunchbase or Pitchbook profile, or papers from your VC or accelerator, that shows your current funding. Keep the round size visible, since the tier you land in depends on it. GitLab does not process applications during US holidays, so allow a few extra days around those dates.
Does Premium come with monthly billing?
GitLab lists Premium at $29 per user a month, billed annually, so you commit to a year of seats up front. You pay for each user in the group, including people who only review merge requests. Count your team before you buy, because seats you add later are billed for the rest of the term.
What happens when the free plan runs out of CI minutes?
The Free tier on GitLab.com includes 400 compute minutes a month on shared runners. Once they are used, you can buy more at $10 per 1,000 minutes, or run pipelines on your own runner, which does not draw on the quota. Premium includes 10,000 minutes a month and Ultimate 50,000.
Can I try Premium or Ultimate before paying?
Both paid tiers offer a free trial from the pricing page through the "Try for free" button. The trial runs on a GitLab.com group, so set it up on the group you plan to keep. At the end you pick a paid tier or the group drops back to Free, with its 5-user limit.
