Neon bills Postgres by compute hours and storage, with no monthly minimum on its paid plans. The Free plan gives each project 100 CU-hours of compute and 1 GB of storage, up to 20 GB across the account, and suspends compute when you hit a limit instead of charging you. Launch and Scale are pay as you go at different hourly compute rates, and both scale to zero when idle. The startup programme hands out credits: up to $1K for self-funded teams and much more for venture-backed ones.

Questions

What people ask about Neon.

What happens when a Neon Free project uses up its compute hours?

Neon suspends that project's compute until the next month or until you upgrade. You aren't charged, because the Free plan has no usage billing. Each project has its own 100 CU-hour allowance, so one busy project doesn't stop the others.

Is there a minimum monthly bill on Neon's Launch plan?

No, Launch and Scale are pay as you go with no monthly minimum. Neon doesn't collect invoices under $0.50. A side project that idles most of the month and scales to zero can cost very little.

How do Launch and Scale differ in price?

According to neon.com, Launch charges $0.106 per CU-hour and Scale $0.222, with storage at $0.35 per GB-month on both. Scale adds fixed compute sizes beyond autoscaling and lets you set scale-to-zero from one minute to always-on. Launch fits startups; Scale is for production workloads that need tighter control.

How much can a startup get from Neon's startup programme?

Self-funded startups can get up to $1K in Neon credits. Venture-backed startups can get up to $200K in combined Neon and Databricks credits. Credits last 12 months from approval.

Does Neon charge for storage on branches?

Storage is billed per GB-month on paid plans, and branching is included on every plan. On Free, storage is capped at 1 GB per project and 20 GB for the account. Delete branches you no longer need to keep the storage total down.
