Squarespace sells four website plans, Basic, Core, Plus and Advanced, each billed monthly or yearly, with the yearly price clearly lower per month. The plans differ mostly in what Squarespace takes from your sales: Basic charges a 2% fee on store orders, while Core and above drop it to zero. Yearly plans include a free custom domain for the first year. You can build for 14 days on a free trial without entering a card.

Questions
Which Squarespace plan stops the fee on product sales?
Core. Basic adds a 2% transaction fee on online store orders, and Core, Plus and Advanced charge 0%, according to Squarespace's pricing page. Card processing fees still apply on top; on the UK page Basic and Core pay 2.0% plus £0.25 per payment. Work out your monthly sales before picking Basic to save on the plan.
How does Squarespace charge for courses and memberships?
Digital content and memberships carry their own fee: 7% on Basic, 5% on Core, 1% on Plus and none on Advanced, per Squarespace's pricing page. If you sell a paid newsletter or video course, that fee can outweigh the plan price. Run your expected revenue through each tier before choosing.
What happens to the free domain after the first year?
Squarespace includes one year of free domain registration on yearly plans for new sites. From year two you pay the domain renewal at Squarespace's normal rate. Monthly plans don't get the free year at all.
What does Basic hold back?
Basic limits you to two contributors and leaves out discount codes, shipping labels, ecommerce analytics and code injection for custom CSS or JavaScript. It also lacks the Google Workspace email offer of the higher plans. For a portfolio or a simple service site, those gaps rarely matter.
Do I need a card for the Squarespace trial?
No. The 14-day trial on Squarespace's pricing page asks for no card. Your site stays unpublished until you pick a plan, so build the pages you need and compare monthly against yearly billing before the trial ends.
