FreeAgent prices by the type of business you run, with one Standard plan each for sole traders, partnerships and LLPs, limited companies and landlords. Every version carries the same features: invoicing, expenses, payroll, bank feeds and filing for VAT and Self Assessment. You pay monthly or yearly, prices on the UK site exclude 20% VAT, and a 30-day trial comes first. If you bank with NatWest, RBS, Ulster Bank or Mettle, the software can cost nothing at all.

Questions

What people ask about FreeAgent.

How do I get FreeAgent free through my bank?

FreeAgent's pricing page lists a free route for customers of NatWest, RBS, Ulster Bank and Mettle. You need an eligible business account with that bank. For Mettle, the account needs at least one transaction a month to keep the free access. If the condition lapses, you move onto the paid plan for your business type.

Why does a limited company pay more than a sole trader?

The price follows your legal structure. On FreeAgent's UK site the sole trader plan is £19 a month, partnerships and LLPs £27 and limited companies £33, all before VAT. Every version includes the same features, so the difference reflects the extra filing a company or partnership has. Landlords pay the least, at £10 a month.

Does paying yearly save money?

Yes. Each annual price on FreeAgent's site equals ten monthly payments, so a sole trader pays £190 a year against £228 on monthly billing. New customers also see a half-price introductory period, either six months on monthly billing or the first year on annual billing. Check which one you picked before the trial ends, because the saving lands differently.

Are there extra costs on top of the plan?

Two add-ons appear on the pricing page. Smart Capture Unlimited costs £5 a month if you scan more receipts than the included allowance, and the Amazon integration costs £6 a month for sellers who want their sales imported. Payroll and Making Tax Digital filing are already part of every plan.

My accountant uses FreeAgent. Do I pay them or FreeAgent?

Accounting practices get a free Practice Dashboard and pay FreeAgent per client licence. Their per-client price falls as they add more active clients through the Partner Programme. Many practices then bundle the licence into their fee, so ask your accountant before you start a separate subscription.
