Xero's UK plans are Ignite, Grow, Comprehensive and Ultimate, priced per business per month and shown excluding VAT. Ignite caps you at 20 invoices and 10 bills a month, which suits a sole trader starting out but not a firm with regular suppliers. Payroll is charged per person paid, and extras such as auto-reconciliation, CIS returns and company accounts sit on top as add-ons. New UK customers can start with a free month or take a large discount on their first six months.

Questions
Is Ignite enough for a sole trader?
Ignite lets you send 20 invoices and enter 10 bills a month. If you invoice a few clients and have few supplier bills, that fits. Once you pass either limit, Grow at £39 a month (excluding VAT, from Xero's UK site) removes the cap.
Can I combine the free trial with the six-month discount?
Xero's UK pricing page shows both a 30-day free trial and 90% off your plan for the first six months. They are presented as separate ways to start. Pick the trial if you want to test with real bank feeds first, or the discount if you're ready to pay from day one.
What do I pay after the first six months?
The standard monthly price for your plan applies from month seven. On Xero's UK site that is £18 for Ignite, £39 for Grow, £55 for Comprehensive and £70 for Ultimate, all excluding VAT. Budget for the full price before you commit, since the discount does not roll on.
How much does payroll cost on Xero?
Xero charges £1.50 per person paid each month on its UK plans. A business with four employees adds about £6 a month on top of the plan. Contractor CIS returns are a separate £5 a month add-on.
Which add-ons cost extra?
Auto-reconciliation of bank transactions is £3.50 a month, and extra users for expenses or projects are £2.50 each. Company accounts and Corporation Tax filing cost £120 a year excluding VAT. Online payment fees for invoices and bills come on top and depend on the payment provider.
