Jira charges per user per month on its Standard and Premium plans, and the Free plan covers a team of up to 10 users with 2 GB of storage and help from the Atlassian Community. Standard and Premium each come with a free trial, so you can test permissions, more storage and Cloud support before paying. The startup programme gives VC-funded or accelerator-backed companies Jira Premium for up to 50 seats for one year, together with Confluence, Loom and Bitbucket.

Questions
What happens when my team grows past 10 users on the Free plan?
The Free plan stops at 10 users, so the eleventh person needs a paid plan. Atlassian suggests starting a trial of Standard or Premium at that point. Standard adds 250 GB of storage and regional support from the Cloud team, which the Free plan lacks.
Can I get a refund on Jira if it doesn't work out?
Atlassian refunds Cloud products if you're unhappy with them. On a monthly subscription you can ask within your first paid month after the trial ends. On an annual subscription the window is 30 days from payment.
Who qualifies for Atlassian for Startups?
Your company must be new to paid Atlassian products, VC-funded or part of a partner accelerator or incubator, and have raised no more than US$10 million. Atlassian reviews each application and may ask for a Crunchbase or Pitchbook profile as proof of funding. You get one 12-month enrolment per startup.
What do I pay after the free startup year?
After 12 months you choose to renew at Atlassian's standard prices or cancel. If you need more than 50 Jira seats during the year, Atlassian sends a quote for a paid upgrade. Plan for that cost before the year runs out so the switch doesn't surprise your finance person.
How do I pay for an annual Jira subscription?
Annual subscriptions accept credit card, bank transfer or cheque, according to Atlassian's pricing page. Monthly plans bill per user each month, so the bill moves with your headcount. Annual billing suits a team whose size is stable for the year ahead.
