“Sell an online course”
1 of 2

A course platform hosts your lessons, takes the payment and keeps students logged in. The real difference is how much else it bundles. Teachable, from $29 a month, handles checkout and sales tax so a first course goes live quickly. Podia, from $42, adds email, a website and a community for solo creators with several products, while Kajabi, from $143 and with no transaction fees, suits coaches who already have an audience.

Questions

What people ask about online courses.

How much should I spend on a platform before my course has sold?

Keep the fixed cost low until you have proof people will pay. A handful of sales covers Teachable's $29 a month or Podia's $42. Kajabi starts at $143 a month and makes more sense once you have an email list and a launch plan. None of the three has a free plan in our data, so check each trial before you build.

Do I still need a website and an email tool alongside the course platform?

Often you do not. Kajabi includes a website, email marketing, payments and even a podcast host in one account. Podia bundles email marketing, a website builder and a community area. Teachable focuses on your branded school and checkout, so you may keep a separate newsletter tool.

Who handles VAT when I sell a course to buyers in other EU countries?

Online courses count as digital services, so EU consumers pay VAT at their own country's rate. Teachable says it handles checkout, payments and sales tax for you, which takes most of that work off your desk. With other platforms, check whether they act as the seller or leave the VAT to you. Ask your accountant how the EU One Stop Shop return fits your situation.

Can I sell coaching calls and downloads next to the course?

All three sell more than video lessons. Teachable covers courses, coaching and digital downloads from one school. Podia adds webinars to courses, downloads and coaching. Kajabi brings coaching, a community and a podcast into the same account as your courses.

Is it hard to move my students to another platform later?

Moving lessons is mostly upload work, but students, logins and active subscriptions take more planning. Export your student list and email addresses regularly so your audience stays yours. Recurring payments are the tricky part, because subscribers may need to sign up again on the new checkout. Picking a platform that fits your next two years saves that migration.
